Microneedling
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to create tiny, evenly spaced micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound healing process, stimulating healthy tissue repair and resulting in a rejuvenated appearance by boosting your own collagen and elastin. One session of microneedling can give you back a whole year of collagen that you’ve lost. Microneedling can reduce wrinkles, pores, hyperpigmentation, and other texture irregularities. It’s even effective in targeting melanocytes responsible for melanin overproduction, leading to brighter, more even-toned skin.
At AE we use Dermalogica pro restore serum in our microneedling treatment as it designed to enhance results and minimize downtime.
about the treatment
Frequently asked questions about Microneedling
How long is the treatment?
You will be booked in for a 30 minute treatment. This includes a double cleanse, numbing, your microneedling session, and creams relevant to your skin type after treatment.
Pain scale?
Most patients find this a comfortable treatment.
Down time?
You will need a 24-72 hour cool down period for this treatment. Due to the intensity of the microneedling you are usually left a little red/tight after treatment and depending on your skin this depends on how long it will take for the redness/tightness to subside.
When will I see Results?
Results are seen within the first week of treatment. We always recommend 3 sessions 4-6 weeks apart to get the best results.
What types of microneedling treatments do you offer?
There are two types of microneedling that we offer in clinic. Number one is our traditional microneedling with Dermalogica Pro Restore serum, and secondly, we offer Microneedling with Dermalogica Exosome Exoboosters.
What is the difference between traditional microneedling and exosome microneedling?
The difference between these two treatments:
- Exosome Application: The most significant difference lies in the use of exosomes. Exosome microneedling incorporates specialized growth-inducing cells, which enhances the healing process and boosts collagen production.
- Results: While both treatments yield impressive results, exosome microneedling often provides more immediate and noticeable improvements, thanks to the regenerative power of exosomes.
- Cost: Due to the extra step of exosome inclusion and application, exosome microneedling is more expensive than traditional microneedling.
- Recovery: Because of the healing properties of exosomes, combining them with microneedling can lead to faster healing times after your procedure.
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling is when the skin is punctured, and small injuries caused by the needle trigger healing, which then jump-starts the production of collagen and elastin. These two essential proteins are responsible for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. As a result, microneedling helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars while also improving skin texture and tone.
What are exosomes in microneedling?
Exosome microneedling combines the traditional microneedling technique (including all of its benefits) with the power of exosomes, specialised cells that prompt new cell growth and healing. Exosomes are some of the body’s most powerful cells and contain growth factors that promote tissue repair and collagen production.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
We recommend anything from 3–6 sessions to start your microneedling journey based on your specific skin concern, then you can have booster sessions every 3 months to really promote the collagen and elastin in your skin.
What is the recovery time after microneedling?
Recovery after your microneedling is dependent on your skin. The day of your session you will be left very red – typically the look and sensation of having sunburn (which is very normal). We advise a 24–72-hour healing process after your treatment. Typically, after your treatment on day 3–5 you may experience some dryness on the skin, and full results will be seen from day 7.
Can microneedling be done on active acne or lesions?
Please be aware we cannot treat active acne/skin lesions with microneedling.
