Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth out lines, and enhance facial contours. They are commonly used in aesthetic medicine to reduce signs of aging or add structure to features like lips, cheeks, jawline, and under-eyes. They can add volume where fat or collagen has been lost, they can enhance facial features, improve skin texture and hydration and smooth out wrinkles.

There are multiple places on the face that we can use dermal filler, at AE we offer contour packages so we can look at the full face as a whole and contour accordingly to what you would like to achieve. Alternatively, you can focus on one area such as lips, cheeks, or chin. A consultation would be beneficial beforehand to understand what you would like to see from your results and Erin can tailor a treatment specifically for your requests.

Dermal fillers last approximately 6–12 months. However, different filler is used for different areas of the face therefore this means one area may not last as long as the other due to the composition of the filler used in that area. For example, a finer filler is used for lips to ensure they feel subtle and soft, and this will last around 6 months, whereas a firmer filler is used in chin and cheeks as this is replicating bone and will last around 8–12 months. Lifestyle factors also play a role in how quickly your dermal filler will last as well.

The side effects of dermal filler can be redness, swelling and bruising. We discuss this within your treatment and would advise a 24-hour downtime period after your treatment. Full results of filler will be seen in two weeks.

Dermal fillers can be dissolved, and this can be for many reasons. Sometimes you may not like how the filler is sitting after many years of having it and dissolving and starting fresh may be a better option for you. Some filler can migrate and this would be assed as your appointment and advised to be dissolved before going ahead with any more filler treatments. Filler dissolving appointments are available and can be spoken about with Erin if this is a treatment that you may benefit from. Dissolving can have the same side effects as having the dermal filler treatment carried out, so ensure you have some downtime for 24 hours after your procedure.

The treatment will be carried out by Erin who will discuss your treatment plan beforehand ensuring there is a clear plan of what you would like to achieve, and all your questions will be answered. Topical numbing cream will be applied before the treatment, and then once the numbing has taken effect the dermal filler treatment will take place. Aftercare checks will be carried out, and a discussion of how to care for your dermal filler will be discussed after treatment.
